Are White German Shepherds more prone to health issues than traditional German Shepherds?

Emmydegreat

Question

White German Shepherds can be prone to some of the same health issues as traditional German Shepherds, such as hip and elbow dysplasia. However, their coat color itself does not increase health risks. Regular veterinary check-ups are essential for maintaining their health.

Generally, white German Shepherds are not more susceptible to any health problems than the normal colored German shepherds. They have the exact same genetic disposition meaning they are at risk for the same breed specific health problems including hip dysplasia elbow dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy. The white coat color results from a recessive gene and it is however not associated with other extra health concerns.

Nonetheless, it is important to avoid purchasing dogs from the first breeder met and instead, look for a good breeder who emphasizes on the health of the dogs and not the coat color in order to reduce such genetic problems.
