Apology had earlier on Monday been tendered by controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, aka VeryDarkMan, to human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, over unsavory remarks he made against the senior lawyer.

VeryDarkMan, who appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, said at no time did he insinuate that Falana was a suspect in the alleged bribery case involving crossdresser Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, the EFCC, and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

He said, "Unfortunately, some people are using this situation to target Femi Falana. I am sorry; it's sad that his name was mentioned in that audio. I found that hard to believe, and that is the most upsetting part. I refuse to believe he was involved with anything like that."

This was very similar to a tweet VeryDarkMan had earlier made, where he accused Bobrisky of boasting, in an audio recording, that she had bribed EFCC officials a sum of N15 million to drop charges of money laundering against her. The recording also claimed her "godfather," in league with the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Haliru Nababa, had prevailed on them to allow her to serve the six-month imprisonment in a private house instead of prison.

Following the allegations, VeryDarkMan came out to release a video, demanding an in-depth investigation of the matter. He added that he did not mean to defame Falana. He also accused Falana of asking for a presidential pardon for a crossdresser, Bobrisky, for N10 million in his post.

Next in line was a letter of denial from Falana & Falana's Chambers, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by Taiwo E. Olawanle; the firm claimed that he never discussed the issue of pardon with Bobrisky or spoke to him on any issue, therefore what was stated in the video was wrong.
