Sir Jim Ratcliffe on Ruben Amorim:

“I think he’s done a great job in the circumstances, frankly, with the squad that he’s had available. The fact he came in mid-season. Everybody expects miracles overnight. It’s not the way, not real life in my view.” 🗣️

“You saw the performance yesterday [against Arsenal]. It was, I thought, a really impressive performance. They could not have worked harder. They couldn’t have been more committed.”

“Half the squad’s missing for Ruben. If you look at the top eight players in terms of salaries in Manchester United, 50 per cent of those are not available to Ruben. You’ve got Mason Mount, you’ve got Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford has gone, and Jadon Sancho (on loan at Chelsea). And he’s got a bunch of other injuries as you know, so I think he’s done a fantastic job.”

“You have to give the guy a bit of a break. I mean, give me a hard time, I have no problem with that. But give Ruben a break. I think he’s a good guy, he’s working hard, and I think he’s doing a great job.”

“I really, really like Ruben. He’s a very thoughtful guy. Every time I go to the training ground, I speak to Ruben. I sit down and have a cup of coffee with him and tell him where it’s going wrong, and he tells me to f**k off. I like him.”

“If I actually look at the squad available to Ruben, I think he is doing a really good job to be honest. I think Ruben is an outstanding young manager. I really do. He’s an excellent manager and I think he will be there for a long time.” 💬

Man Utd chiefs set to ditch Sir Jim Ratcliffe's project as Ruben Amorim reality sets in
Manchester United chiefs may have to ditch their Project 150 dream after realising that it’s going to take Ruben Amorim years to build a team capable of challenging for the Premier League.

Chief executive Omar Berrada announced on his arrival at the club last summer that co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe had set his sights on taking the title back to Old Trafford by 2028 to celebrate United’s 150th anniversary. But the stark reality of the monumental task facing manager Ruben Amorim has since kicked in.

There’s now an acceptance inside the United boardroom that the 40-year-old Portuguese is being forced to work, as one insider described it “with his hands tied behind his back”, due to the poor state of the squad he inherited from Erik ten Hag and the perilous financial position of the club.

READ MORE: Ajax release Antony statement and make feelings clear on Man Utd transfer flop

United expected results to be better than those Amorim has delivered - just 10 wins in 25 games.

But with Ratcliffe’s INEOS Group currently implementing an overhaul of how the Reds go about their business from the academy level to the first-team squad, after striking an ownership pact with the Glazer family just over a year ago, there’s an awareness that the former Sporting Lisbon coach must be given time if he can’t be bankrolled in the transfer market.

“Amorim felt he could get more from the current squad when he came in and there have been some encouraging results,” added the source.

“But there’s no getting away from the fact that overall it’s been a really tough watch - and that it’s going to take a lot of time and patience to get the team to where they should be

“You’ve got to be brave or foolish to think winning the league by 2028 is doable from where United currently are.”

It will soon be 12 years since Sir Alex Ferguson retired after winning the last of his 13 Premier League titles. Berrada’s reputation is wedded to Amorim succeeding. The chief executive’s bold statement of intent was met with incredulity by some staff members when the Frenchman proposed his timeline to the top.

Within weeks the club had sacked Ten Hag, just a couple of months after handing him a contract extension and a £200million transfer kitty.

It was Berrada, the executive recruited from rivals Manchester City, who was the driving force behind the appointment of Amorim - despite warnings from sporting director Dan Ashworth that the squad would have to be revamped to fit the Portuguese’s playing philosophy.

Ashworth followed Ten Hag out of the club less than five months after United paid £5million in compensation to prise him away from Newcastle.

INEOS are fully aware that if they make another knee-jerk managerial change they risk losing the dwindling goodwill of disillusioned fans. It cost them £10.4 million million to sack Ten Hag and another £11 million in compensation to appoint Amorim.

Fears over failing the Premier League’s PSR meant United were only able to buy Lecce’s £25 million wing-back Patrick Dorgu and young Arsenal defender Ayden Heaven during a January window that saw Marcus Rashford, Antony and Tyrell Malacia leave on loan.

Securing the permanent departures of those three, as well as the likelihood that Chelsea will be obligated to pay £20million for Jason Sancho, will help to ease the stress that comes with servicing debts of £773 million. Another £315 million is owed on outstanding transfer fees.

United will also hope to find a club for Casemiro while Christian Eriksen is out of contract.

Promising youngsters like Harry Amass, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, Tyler Fredricson, Elyh Harrison and Godwill Kukonki are all pushing for places in Amorim’s squad for the clash with Arsenal at Old Trafford after coming through an academy that has produced a team good enough to reach the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup.

But even the fabled Class of 92 succeeded because they graduated into a squad already packed with seasoned winners.

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stated that refurbishing the Government House is not a top priority at the moment, emphasising that his administration is focused on projects that matter more to Abians.

However, he assured all that the seat of power would be fixed soon.

Speaking during the March edition of his monthly interaction with journalists on Friday, Otti remarked, “Abians want to see activities, not where their governor is staying,” adding that resources are scarce and are being directed to more critical needs."

“You are worried that I am not operating from here; I don’t think you should worry about that. The important thing is that I’m operating"

"Where I live is not as important as having roads in Aba and Umuahia and ensuring that our people have good hospitals and schools,” the governor said.

Otti disclosed that while the governor’s office and lodge were in a “terrible state of disrepair” when he assumed office, they will be renovated “in no distant time.”

On funding for the state’s infrastructure projects, Otti described his strategy as “Financial Engineering,” stating, “How I manage the funds available to me is my trade secret.”

The governor revealed that of the 948 Primary Healthcare Centres in the state, 267 have been upgraded, and the Umunneato General Hospital has been transformed into a Specialist Hospital.

He also highlighted efforts to revive the education sector, noting that 222 schools have been identified for urgent attention.

On road infrastructure, Otti said that Julius Berger is working hard to complete the Aba–Port Harcourt road before the end of May.

He further assured all that the “Light-Up Abia” initiative and distribution of transformers will continue to enhance security and aesthetics across the state.

Speaking on security, the governor stressed, “We will not rest on our oars as security is our top priority,” and called for public support to sustain peace in Abia."

Otti promised that the next 21 months will witness even more development activities, reaffirming his commitment to addressing the state’s pressing needs

A Nigerian lady, Chioma Ifeanyi-Eze, has shared an interesting story about how her husband won her heart, even while she was dating a medical doctor.

Taking to her social handle, she wrote:

"My husband has one of the rarest chasing skills I have seen. I was dating a medical doctor when I met my husband. He never for one day said anything about the doctor nor asked me anything about my relationships with anyone. He just focused all his energy on making me laugh a lot, enjoying the friendship, building a closeness, and finally proposed."

According to her, even though her then-boyfriend, the doctor, complained about how much she laughed during her husband's calls, she reassured him that they were just friends. She even thought she wouldn’t date her husband because of his tall and huge stature.

However, her husband’s strategy was different—he never competed or spoke about the doctor. Instead, he used deep care, attention, peace of mind, and laughter to gradually win her over.

"Alas, my husband had the baddest strategy of building the deepest friendship and disarming all the other chasers without ever discussing them for one day. Chai."

Eventually, she was the one who dismissed everyone else because none could match the joy and peace he brought into her life. Now, 14 years into marriage, she still wonders where he learned such an incredible approach.

"14 years on, he is still such an amazing choice. I respect his strategies till date."

A viral video showing a self-acclaimed Nigerian "Big Boy" flushing stacks of Naira notes down a toilet has sparked widespread outrage online. The unidentified young man, appearing to show off his wealth, was captured in the footage dropping bundles of cash into a water cistern before flushing, claiming he was "too rich" to care. shocked

This reckless display of extravagance has angered many Nigerians, with social media users calling on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to take action. Some netizens pointed out that such an act violates Section 21 of the CBN Act (2007), which prohibits the abuse of the Naira, including defacing or destroying currency notes. The offense carries a punishment of at least six months in prison, a fine of ₦50,000, or both.

Critics have also linked such behavior to illicit wealth, arguing that "money that comes too easily or illegally is often wasted carelessly." Others condemned the act as a show of disregard for the country's economic struggles, calling it an insult to millions of hardworking Nigerians.

The National Counter Terrorism Centre, under the Office of the National Security Adviser, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Alliance of Sahel States – Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger – to effectively combat terrorism in West Africa and the Sahel region.

Speaking during a study visit of delegates from the three nations to the NCTC in Abuja on Thursday, the National Coordinator, Maj. Gen. Adamu Laka, emphasised the importance of regional cooperation in counterterrorism efforts.

The visit comes at a critical time, as Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger recently withdrew from the Economic Community of West African States, raising concerns about worsening insecurity in the region.

Last week, Nigeria’s Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, warned that the exit of the three countries had increased the security burden on Nigeria’s military.

“The recent withdrawal of the Alliance of Sahel States from ECOWAS has disrupted existing security frameworks. This development has direct implications for the Multinational Joint Task Force, which has played a crucial role in countering Boko Haram and ISWAP across Nigeria, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon,” Abubakar stated during a first-quarter meeting with senior Air Force officials in Abuja.

Speaking on Thursday, the NCTC coordinator, Laka, noted that the study tour by Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso delegates aimed to enhance knowledge sharing, promote teamwork, and strengthen social skills among regional security actors.

“As you are aware, cooperation in counterterrorism efforts is essential as it allows countries to share information, resources, and expertise,” he said. “The challenges we face in countering terrorism are multifaceted and complex, requiring innovative approaches and steadfast determination. By coming together in this spirit of mutual understanding and cooperation, we strengthen our resolve and enhance our capabilities to effectively counter terrorism.”

Laka highlighted the existing military collaboration between Nigeria, Niger, Chad, Cameroon, and Benin Republic, particularly through the Lake Chad Basin Commission.

He credited the MNJTF for dislodging Boko Haram from its former strongholds and significantly degrading its capacity to launch large-scale attacks.

He also reaffirmed that the Office of the National Security Adviser had adopted a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach to ensure a coordinated response to terrorism and serious organised crime.

Nigeria’s counterterrorism strategy, he said, has evolved over the years to focus on legal, policy, and strategic frameworks.

The Chief of Defence Staff and Chairman of West African Defence Chiefs, Gen. Christopher Musa, announced plans to visit Mali and Burkina Faso soon, saying that Nigeria had no intention of waging war against the two nations.

Musa, who visited Niger last year, expressed eagerness to visit Mali and Burkina Faso, stressing the need for unity in the face of shared security threats.

He also called for a concerted effort to disrupt illegal mining operations, which he identified as a major source of funding for terrorist groups.

Musa said, “I visited Niger last year and was warmly received. I look forward to visiting Mali and Burkina Faso as well. We must remain united.

“We must stop them from accessing funds. We need to prevent foreign partners from supporting them. This is crucial in our fight against terrorism.”

Expressing his delight at the meeting, the CDS stressed the importance of regional cooperation in tackling security challenges.

“It gladdens my heart to have people from the AES countries here. It shows how important it is for us to work together. It is only by working together that we can defeat these enemies of peace. These individuals have no respect for life, borders, or human rights. All they seek is destruction, especially within the Sahel region,” Musa said.

He stressed that Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso have historical and cultural ties.

“If you look at our way of life – whether in Nigeria, Mali, or Niger – we are one and the same. The only difference is the borders drawn during colonial times. Our culture, attitudes, and behaviors are similar. This meeting is a testament to the fact that we are not enemies but brothers and sisters,” he stated.

Musa noted that the meeting would not have been possible if their junta leaders had not permitted it.

He said, “Of course, they would not have been here if they didn’t have the support of their commanders. So they understand that they understand that peace is more important than war.”

Speaking on Nigeria’s commitment to regional peace, Musa stated that the country since independence had been providing support to African countries during crises.

He said, “Over time, Nigeria has remained a peaceful country and has always meant well for its neighbors. There have been attempts to portray us as enemies, but we will never be enemies. Our presence here today is proof that we are brothers and sisters. We will not wage war against each other.

“Once again, I am pleased with this meeting. To our brothers from Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali – we are one family. Do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Since independence, Nigeria has always stepped in to assist African nations in times of crisis.

“During apartheid, we welcomed South Africans here. When Liberia was in turmoil, Charles Taylor found refuge in Nigeria. Even now, the former president of Sierra Leone is here. Nigeria has always been a peaceful nation, and we intend to remain that way.”

The team lead, Aliyu Gebi, called for collaboration to keep countries safer.

He said, “We are safer and stronger when we work together. what happens in Mali,Niger and Burkina Faso resonates in Nigeria.

“I commend the Nigerian military for winning the war against insurgents but we need to harmonise strategies towards winning peace.”

He said the team was in Nigeria to study how to connect kinetic and non-kinetic operations to win peace.

I won’t take much of your time with a long story. You may remember that late last month, I mentioned my boss refusing to pay my salary. At the time, I explained my situation and asked for advice on my next move, considering I don’t have an appointment letter to support any legal action.

Since then, I’ve taken some of the advice given—I started job hunting and have attended several interviews, both physical and virtual.

Fast forward to this morning: one of the companies I interviewed with shortlisted me for the next stage, which was scheduled as a virtual interview at 10:00 AM. I acknowledged the email without trying to reschedule since my boss and his wife usually resume work around 1–2 PM.

However, 15 minutes into the interview, my boss unexpectedly arrived. He headed straight to my office, and I noticed someone standing nearby, eavesdropping. I didn’t think much of it—until I realized it was him. He had heard everything! He then walked into my office and, without saying much, informed me that he had listened to my interview conversation. I greeted him, but there was complete silence before he left.

Honestly, I’m exhausted from working at this company but stayed back to secure another job before leaving. To make matters worse, I still haven’t been paid for last month.

My Questions:
Will I still get my salary, knowing that I plan to resign?
Do you think my boss will fire me before I resign?
What should my next move be, and how should I handle my relationship with him before leaving?

Real's Ancelotti hopes Betis defeat is wake-up call for Champions League
Real Madrid must raise their game ahead of the Champions League Round of 16, coach Carlo Ancelotti warned after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Real Betis, calling the loss a "heavy blow" to his side's LaLiga title hopes.
Real Madrid missed a chance to top LaLiga, remaining level on 54 points with leaders Barcelona and one point ahead of third-placed Atletico Madrid, who both have a game in hand.

Ancelotti criticised his team's poor performance at the Benito Villamarin stadium and said a similar display at home to Atletico in Tuesday's Champions League first leg could prove costly.

"This is a heavy blow, we have to bounce back. Losing at this point in the season is tough because everyone is on form and we didn't do well in this game," the Italian told reporters.

"We lost 27 balls in the first half and Betis got back into the game. If we play like this, we certainly won't win on Tuesday.

"I hope this serves as a wake-up call. It seemed that lately we were more organised, more compact, and today we weren't able to do it like in the previous games.
Ancelotti explained his decision to bring on Endrick for the team's top scorer Kylian Mbappe in the closing stages of the game, saying the French forward had been unable to fully train due to a dental issue.

"(Mbappe) had a problem this week and didn't train much and wasn't at his best level," he said.

"To avoid problems I took him off and put Endrick on, who has been in good form," Ancelotti added of the Brazilian teenager.

Madrid host Rayo Vallecano in LaLiga next Sunday after their Champions League clash against Atletico.

The Federal Government on Monday approved provisional licences for 11 new private universities nationwide, further expanding Nigeria’s higher education sector.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced this to State House Correspondents after the 24th Federal Executive Council meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja. Alausa said,

“Council approved the issuance of provisional licences to 11 new private universities. Several of these applications have been pending for well over three and a half years, but President Bola Tinubu…mandated that we quickly review those applications that are fully completed, and we should bring them to council.”

The minister gave the names of the approved universities as New City University, Ayetoro, Ogun State; University of Fortune, Igbotako, Ondo State; Eranova University, Mabushi, FCT and Minaret University, Ikirun, Osun Annex.

Others are Abubakar Toyin University, Oke-Agba, Kwara State, Southern Atlantic University, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Lens University, Ilemona, Kwara State and Monarch University, Iyesi-Ota, Ogun State.

Others are Tonnie Iredia University of Communication, Benin City, Edo State; Isaac Balami University of Aeronautics and Management, Lagos and Kevin Eze University, Mgbowo, Enugu State.

The minister explained that the 11 universities fulfilled the National Universities Commission’s 13-step process.

Addresses compliance issues Alausa also explained that the Federal Government is suspending the issuance of licences to new private universities.

Nonetheless, the moratorium does not affect applicants far into the approval process.

He added that applicants who have reached the advanced stages will continue to be reviewed and approved if they meet the necessary requirements.

“We’ve also issued a moratorium on issuance of licences to new private universities. The ones approved today have reached a finalisation stage.

“But we’ve decided to review the ones that have gone through the second visit, and if they meet all their requirements, we’ll go ahead and approve them. So there are still some more that will be coming to FEC for approval.

“They’ve invested money. We’re very mindful of those investments. We will continue to process those that meet the requirements of the National University Commission. So we want that to be clear,” he stated.

Akpabio Calls For More Global Action on Climate Change.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio has canvassed urgent measures to combat the devastating impact of climate change on the environment, emphasising that it has become a global crisis that demands immediate action.

Senator Akpabio made the call on Wednesday when the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Mr Simon Stiell led a delegation of Climate Change experts to pay a courtesy visit to him in Abuja.

Senator Akpabio lamented that despite talkshops and conferences around the world to address the climate crises, not much has been done in terms of financing to mitigate the harmful effect of climate change especially on poor communities and nations.

A statement by the Special ******* itant, Media/Communication to the President of the Senate, Anietie Ekong quoted Senator Akpabio as advocating for more action to achieve environmental justice due to climate change.

Senator Akpabio lamented the dangerous effect of climate change on Nigeria to include environmental polution and degradation and ocean surge which has washed away communities in the Niger Delta region, ecological problems in the South East region, and the desert encroachment in the North and shrinking of Lake Chad in the Sahel region.

According to Senator Akpabio, "Nigeria has a lot of issues ranging from pollution due to climatic changes. Climate change is real all over the world. It comes with a lot of human suffering which has affected the world economy.

"If we do not come together as nations to deal with it now we would be playing with the future of generations yet unborn. I want to encourage you as global partners to do what you are doing and keep to the pledges.

"But I have noted that while there are a lot of interest globally in attending conferences we don't seem to have a lot of interest in contributing in tackling the issues of climate change."

He however ******* ured that the National ******* embly would support the efforts of the National Council on Climate Change to address these issues.

"Let me ******* ure you of the cooperation of the National ******* embly towards the framework that you will submit to the next world climate conference."

Leader of the delegation, Mr Stiell said he was in Nigeria to express the support of the United Nations system to Nigeria in the development of a climate plan to outline specific actions to address emissions and update of the two previous climate plans and speak to national challenges of climate change and the opportunity for Nigeria in energy transition.

Other members of the delegation included the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations, Mr Mohammed Fall; the Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Change and the Director General/Chief Executive Officer, National Council on Climate Change Secretariat, Dr Nkiruka Maduekwe; the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme, Elsie Atafa and the Special Adviser on UN Climate Change, Joanna Mcgregor among others.

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has once again brought before the Senate a petition alleging **** ual harassment from Senate President Godswill Akpabio. But this time, it was signed by her constituents.

During the plenary on Thursday, Senator Natasha was asked whether the matter was already before any court of law. But she said it was not. Following protocol, the lawmaker was directed to formally submit the petition, after which it was referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct for investigation.

The committee has been given four weeks to conduct its probe and report to the Senate.

This marks the second time the Kogi Central lawmaker has raised the allegation in the chamber. A previous petition was dismissed on Wednesday owing to procedural irregularities.

Chief Whip Calls Out Kogi Lawmaker

Meanwhile, there was a slightly tense moment before the start of Thursday’s plenary as the Senate Chief Whip Tahir Munguno raised concern over Senator Natasha’s repeated breach of the Senate rules regarding protocol before proceedings.

Citing Order 55, Rule 1, Senator Munguno noted that all senators must stand still upon the entry of the presiding officer until they have taken their seats. He alleged that Senator Natasha had persistently violated this rule, adding that the issue had been widely reported in the media.

“I had to send one of the Sergeants-at-Arms to inform her that she was in breach of the rule,” he stated. “Mr. President, if you are seeking refuge under Order 10 of the rule book, then you cannot approbate and reprobate at the same time. It is the institution that she is disrespecting”.

Addressing her directly, Munguno urged her to comply with the Senate’s regulations and avoid further violations.

“Senator Natasha, as my good friend and colleague, please ensure you comply and do not continue breaching the rules,” he said.

The 650,000-barrel refinery and petrochemicals project worth over $20bn has come to disrupt the oil and gas market in Africa and the world even as the refinery now exports refined products to other countries in Africa and Middle East.

Dangote recently spoke about the challenges he faced constructing the refinery which he described as the biggest risk of his life, saying he went through **** .

But speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony of the 43-storey building new First Bank Head Office at Eko Atlantic City in Lagos, Dangote said he’s now resting after delivering the project.

He commended his friend and ally, Mr. Femi Otedola, who is the Chairman of FirstHoldCo for daring to put up a 43-storey edifice in Eko Atlantic as the new Head Office of FirstBank, Nigeria’s oldest financial institution.

He said Eko Atlantic has become the new City of Lagos and with FirstBank joining the list of corporate entities in the emerging industrial city, more banks would come in.

Dangote however stated that Otedola had also invited him to come to Eko Atlantic, adding, “Maybe soon, not now I’m resting right now. Having delivered the refinery I need some rest but I’ll come, I’ll be here very soon. So I want to congratulate you (Otedola) and the entire board and management of First Bank for taking this bold move of building a massive edifice in the new City of Lagos.”

The groundbreaking is being attended by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, Governors of Lagos, Ogun and Ondo – Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Dapo Abiodun and Lucky Aiyedatiwa respectively.

Others are Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Femi Hamza; former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki; former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, among others.
